Crypto Screener vs DEX Screener: Different Markets, Different Filters

A crypto exchange screener filters listed markets by price, volume and derivatives data. A DEX screener filters onchain pools by liquidity, age and activity. Using one for the other's job produces bad shortlists.

Short answer

A crypto screener on exchange data scans listed spot and perpetual markets with filters such as volume, volatility, funding and open interest, so its universe is defined by what an exchange lists. A DEX screener scans onchain pools with filters such as pool liquidity, pool age, transactions and makers, so its universe includes tokens no exchange lists. TradingView even separates coin, CEX and DEX screeners. ChartsPod's Screener Lab works on exchange markets; DEX Screener works on pools.

Different universes

What each screener scansWhat each screener scans. TradingView's screeners walkthrough describes separate coin, CEX and DEX screeners for exactly this reason: the same filter name means different things on different universes.

Exchange screening in ChartsPod

ChartsPod's Screener Lab is described in its docs as turning a market idea into a transparent, repeatable universe scan on exchange markets, alongside derivatives data such as funding and open interest. A worked example is in How to Create a Volume and Open-Interest Screen in ChartsPod; explaining matches is covered in ChartsPod Screener Results: Explain the Rule Behind Each Match.

DEX screening done safely

On DEX Screener, filter by liquidity, pool age and makers, and remember that trending and boosts are not safety signals; the docs describe trending as multi-input and boosts as paid visibility. See DEX Screener New Pairs: Filter Liquidity, Activity and Pool Age, DEX Screener Boosts vs Organic Activity: What the Badge Means and DEX Screener Trending Is Not a Safety Check: What to Verify.

Use an exchange screener for listed markets and derivatives; use a DEX screener for pools. Never mix their results without labelling the universe.
