DEX Screener Trending Is Not a Safety Check: What to Verify
Trending on DEX Screener blends market activity, page visits, reactions, verified info and boosts. None of those is a safety check.
Short answer
DEX Screener's trending ranking combines market activity (volume, liquidity, transactions, unique makers, holders), community engagement (page visitors and reactions), trust signals (verified info, audit status) and paid boosts, with private weighting. A token can trend because people are looking at it or because boosts were bought. Before trading anything trending, verify the contract, authorities, holder concentration, liquidity control and sellability yourself.

A routine for trending tokens
Treat the trending list as a queue for checks, not a buy list. For each token you consider, run identity, authority, holder, liquidity and sell checks, and note boosts and organic participation. Most will fail one check; that is the expected outcome.
Track which checks reject most tokens over time; it tells you where the common risks are on that chain.
Example: two trending tokens
Illustrative: two tokens sit next to each other on the trending list. The first has 2,000 unique makers over 24 hours, revoked authorities and $1.5M liquidity. The second has 150 makers, heavy boosts and mint authority still set. Both are 'trending'. Only the checks separate them, and only the first is a candidate for further research.
The ranking told you where attention was. The checks told you which attention was worth following.
Why trending isn't safety
Use trending to see where attention is, and run full checks before trading any trending token.
