Crypto Options Charm Exposure: How to Read the Data With Price Context

Charm measures how an option's delta changes with the passage of time. Aggregated, it estimates hedging adjustments that happen just because expiry gets closer.

Short answer

Charm (delta decay) is the rate at which delta changes as time passes. Charm exposure aggregates it using OI and a positioning assumption to estimate the hedge adjustments driven by time alone, which grow into expiry, especially for near-the-money options. In quiet markets these adjustments can show up as steady drift; around large expiries they can matter more. Read it with time to expiry and price distance from large strikes.

Exposure figures need an assumption about who holds each option (commonly: dealers are short what customers bought). Public open interest doesn't reveal positions, so treat dealer-exposure numbers as model outputs.
