Options Expiry Concentration in Crypto: How to Read the Data With Price Context
When a large share of options open interest expires on one date, hedging and settlement effects concentrate there. Concentration is measurable from OI by expiry.
Short answer
Expiry concentration is the share of total options OI that expires on a given date. Large monthly and quarterly expiries often hold much more OI than weeklies. Around concentrated expiries, gamma and charm effects near large strikes are bigger, and OI drops sharply after settlement, changing exposure models. Read it with price: compare spot with the largest strikes for that expiry and recompute exposure after it passes.
