Wrapped Token Prices: How to Read the Number Before a Swap

A wrapped token represents another asset on a different chain or standard. Its price normally tracks the original; when it doesn't, the gap is information.

Short answer

Wrapped tokens (e.g. WETH for ETH, or bridged versions of assets on other chains) are meant to track an underlying asset 1:1. On DEXes their prices usually match the original closely, but bridged versions can trade at a discount when redemption is slow, the bridge is in doubt or pool liquidity is thin. Before a swap, confirm which wrapped version (by address) you're receiving, compare its price with the underlying and check the pool's liquidity.

Example

Illustrative: two tokens called 'USDC' on one chain — one native, one bridged — trade at $1.00 and $0.965. The ticker is the same; the claim on the underlying is not.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. Solana: Assets on Solana (tokens) — mint accounts, supply, decimals, mint and freeze authority.
  2. DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
