Token Supply Errors: Reconcile FDV With Contract Data
FDV is supply times price. If the supply figure is wrong, the valuation is wrong. Reconcile it with the contract.
Short answer
To reconcile FDV with contract data: read total supply and decimals from the token contract or mint account on an explorer, subtract tokens sent to burn addresses, and multiply by price. DEX Screener uses (total supply − burned supply) × price. Common errors are decimal mistakes (a factor of 10^n), counting burned tokens, using a self-reported circulating figure as total, or confusing bridged and native supplies. A difference of an exact power of ten almost always means decimals.

Launch ChartsPodCommon errors
| Error | Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Decimals | Off by exactly 10ⁿ | Apply decimals from contract |
| Burns counted | FDV too high | Subtract burn addresses |
| Circulating as total | FDV too low | Use total supply |
| Bridged + native summed | Double count | Count one chain's canonical supply |
Bridged and multi-chain supply
Tokens existing on several chains through bridges can have their supply counted on each chain. Adding them double-counts tokens locked in bridge contracts. Use the canonical chain's supply, or subtract tokens held by bridge contracts, before computing FDV.
Worked example: a decimals error
Illustrative: a tool shows FDV of $20 billion for a small token. The contract shows total supply of 1,000,000,000,000,000 raw units and 6 decimals, which is 1,000,000,000 tokens. At $0.02, the correct FDV is $20 million. Someone applied the raw units without dividing by 10^6, and the valuation was off by a factor of one thousand.
Whenever a valuation looks absurd, check decimals first. An exact power-of-ten difference is almost always this error.

Why is FDV wrong on some sites?
Supply inputs differ: decimals, burns, circulating vs total, bridged supply.
How does DEX Screener calculate FDV?
(Total supply − burned supply) × price.
What does an exact 1,000× difference mean?
Almost certainly a decimals error.
Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
