DEX Screener Market Cap vs FDV: Why the Numbers Can Match
Market cap and FDV look like they should differ. On DEX Screener they often match, because of how supply is sourced.
Short answer
DEX Screener calculates FDV as (total supply − burned supply) × price and notes that in most cases FDV equals market cap. Market cap differs only when a circulating supply figure is available, which DEX Screener takes from self-reported sources (Enhanced Token Info or CoinGecko). If no separate circulating supply is provided, both numbers use the same supply and match. Matching numbers do not mean all tokens are circulating; check vesting and holder distribution yourself.
The formulas
| Metric | DEX Screener method |
|---|---|
| FDV | (Total supply − burned supply) × price |
| Market cap | Circulating supply × price, where a self-reported circulating figure exists |
| When they match | No separate circulating supply provided |

Illustrative: total supply 1,000,000,000, burned 0, price $0.02 → FDV $20M. If the project reports 250,000,000 circulating, market cap = $5M. If it reports nothing, market cap shows $20M too.
Why this matters for decisions
Market cap is often used to compare tokens. If one token's market cap uses a self-reported circulating supply and another's uses total supply, the comparison is distorted. Use FDV for like-for-like comparisons and check unlock schedules separately.
Large future unlocks mean supply entering circulation; at a given price, they add selling capacity that a low market cap hides.
Example: comparing two tokens
Illustrative: token A shows market cap $10M with self-reported 20% circulating; token B shows market cap $30M with no circulating figure, so it equals its FDV. By market cap A looks three times smaller; by FDV, A is $50M and B $30M, so A is actually larger on a fully diluted basis.
Compare FDV when supply reporting differs, and look at unlock schedules for anything priced on circulating supply.
Verify supply yourself
Expect FDV and market cap to match unless a circulating figure is supplied, and verify supply onchain either way.

Why are market cap and FDV the same on DEX Screener?
Usually because no separate circulating supply was provided.
Where does circulating supply come from?
Self-reported via Enhanced Token Info or CoinGecko, per DEX Screener.
Does matching mean no locked tokens?
No; check vesting and holders onchain.
Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

- Solana: Assets on Solana (tokens) — mint accounts, supply, decimals, mint and freeze authority.
