Rate of Change Ratio in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close

The rate of change ratio is close ÷ close N bars ago. It's simple — and on the live bar it moves one-for-one with price, divided by a fixed past close.

Short answer

ROCR(N) = close ÷ close[N] (sometimes × 100). The past close is fixed, so the live ROCR moves proportionally to price: a 1% intrabar move changes ROCR by about 1% of its value. Threshold rules (e.g. ROCR > 1.05) can trigger and un-trigger mid-bar. There's no smoothing to damp it. When the bar N periods back leaves the window at the next bar, ROCR also steps.

Worked: close[N] = 57,000. Live price 60,000 → ROCR ≈ 1.053; at 59,500 → ≈ 1.044. A 1.05 threshold flips within the bar.
