Liquidity-Pool Addresses: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Every pool has its own address. Charts, data and swaps refer to a specific pool, so checking the pool address avoids trading in the wrong one.
Short answer
A liquidity pool address identifies one pool for one pair on one DEX and fee tier. Tokens often have several pools, and copycat pools can pair a fake token with a real quote token. Before a swap, confirm the pool address from the DEX or a data source, check that its base token address matches the project's, and make sure the chart you're reading uses that same pool. DEX Screener's pairAddress and CoinGecko's pool endpoints both key on the pool address.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Pool address | Unique pool identity |
| Base token address | Must match project |
| Chart's pool | Same as swap pool? |
| Several pools | Pick deliberately |

Example
Illustrative: a chart shows a pool with steady volume, but the swap interface routes through a different pool with a tenth of the liquidity. The impact is far larger than the chart suggests.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
- DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
- CoinGecko onchain API: Top pools by token address (pool schema) — pool fields and nullability (fdv_usd, market_cap_usd, reserve_in_usd).
