How to Record a Trade Thesis and Invalidation in ChartsPod
A journal entry written after the trade explains the outcome. One written before records the decision. Only the second helps you improve.
Short answer
Record a trade thesis in ChartsPod's journal before acting: the market and venue, timeframe, the reason (levels, order flow, derivatives), the entry plan, the invalidation (a price or condition that proves the idea wrong), the size and risk, and a time limit. After the trade, add the outcome without editing the original thesis. ChartsPod's docs describe the journal as recording the decision process so review produces useful feedback.
A thesis template
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Market | BTCUSDT perpetual, venue |
| Thesis | Sellers absorbed at 59,800; OI falling |
| Entry | On retest of 59,900 with bar-close confirmation |
| Invalidation | 1h close below 59,600 |
| Size / risk | Risk 0.5% of account |
| Time limit | Exit if no move in 12h |
| Outcome | Added afterwards |

Control names in the terminal can change between releases. If a label differs from this guide, look for the setting that does the job described.
Journal mistakes
Writing after the outcome turns the journal into a story. Write before acting, even a single line.
Recording only trades taken hides the value of trades avoided. Log notable setups you passed on and why.
Vague invalidations like "if it looks weak" can't be reviewed. Use a price or a condition with a time frame.
Example of a complete entry
Illustrative entry: 'ETHUSDT perp, venue A, 1h. Thesis: higher low held at 3,020 with sellers absorbed on footprint; funding neutral. Entry: on 15m close above 3,060. Invalidation: 1h close below 3,000. Risk 0.5%. Time limit: 24h.' Outcome added later: 'Stopped at 2,998 after 9h; invalidation respected.'
That entry can be reviewed honestly a month later because nothing in it depends on memory.
