GeckoTerminal Search by Contract: Choose the Correct Network and Pool

Ticker search on a DEX aggregator returns impostors. Searching by contract address, on the right network, then choosing the right pool, avoids them.

Short answer

Search GeckoTerminal by the token's contract address rather than its ticker, confirm the network matches (the same address format can exist on several EVM chains), then choose among the pools listed for that token by liquidity and quote token, not by which appears first. CoinGecko's top-pools-by-token-address endpoint shows that one token can have many pools with different liquidity and volume. Get the contract address from the project's official channels or the chain's explorer.

Three steps

Finding the right chartFinding the right chart. Steps: 1. Get the address — Official source or explorer; 2. Pick the network — Chain must match; 3. Paste address — Not the ticker; 4. Compare pools — Liquidity, quote, DEX; 5. Network mistakes

EVM chains share address formats, so the same-looking address can exist on different networks with unrelated contracts. Solana uses mint addresses in a different format (see How to Find a Solana Token by Mint Address, Not Ticker).

EVM chains and lookalike addresses

On EVM chains, a token deployed by the same team can share an address across networks, but unrelated contracts can also exist at the same address on another chain. Always confirm the chain alongside the address.

Be wary of addresses that match the first and last few characters of the real one; impostors sometimes generate lookalikes. Copy addresses from a single trusted source and compare the full string, not just the ends.

Bookmark the verified token page on GeckoTerminal after the first successful lookup and reuse it, rather than searching again each time.

Record the chosen pool address in your notes; it is the identifier for later comparisons. See How to Compare Two Liquidity Pools for the Same Token.

If the token lists on a supported exchange, analyse the exchange market separately.

Questions readers ask

Why not search by ticker?

Tickers are not unique; impostor tokens reuse popular names.

Where do I get the contract address?

From the project's official documentation or the chain's block explorer.

Which pool should I use?

Usually the deepest pool in a stable quote token; record its address.

Sources and methodology

GeckoTerminal behaviour is described through CoinGecko's official onchain API documentation, which exposes the same pool data, as read on 17 October 2026. Interface labels may differ from API field names. Examples use illustrative numbers.

  1. CoinGecko API: Top pools by token address — multiple pools per token.
  2. Solana: Assets on Solana (tokens) — mint accounts, supply, decimals, mint and freeze authority.
  3. DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
