How to Compare Two Liquidity Pools for the Same Token

The same token can trade in several pools on different DEXs and against different quote tokens. The best pool depends on your size and route.

Short answer

Compare two pools for the same token on: active liquidity near the current price (not just TVL), fee tier, quote token, recent volume and makers, price difference between them, and pool type (constant-product or concentrated). For a given trade size, compute expected price impact in each. CoinGecko's API lists top pools by token address; DEX aggregators may split a trade across pools, but knowing the main pool helps you check the route.

Aggregators and routing

DEX aggregators split trades across pools to reduce impact. Check the proposed route before confirming: if it sends most of your trade through a thin pool, something is wrong. Comparing the aggregator's quoted price with your own estimate from the main pool is a quick sanity check.

Before choosing a pool

Confirm both pools are for the same token address, not lookalikes. Compare active depth over the price path your trade needs. Add each pool's fee tier. Note the quote token and whether you would need an extra swap to get it. Check recent makers to see which pool the market actually uses.

If the two pools differ in price by more than fees, someone is arbitraging slowly or liquidity is fragmented; either way, the deeper pool usually reflects the market better.

Notes

Persistent price gaps between pools signal fragmented liquidity. Concentrated pools change depth as price moves out of ranges. See Concentrated Liquidity vs Total TVL: Measure Active Depth and How Much Liquidity Does a DEX Trade Need? Calculate Price Impact.

Compare pools on active depth and impact at your size, not on TVL alone.

Questions readers ask

Which pool should I use?

The one with the lowest impact plus fees for your size, after checking it's the right token.

Is the highest-TVL pool best?

Not necessarily; active liquidity near price matters.

Do aggregators handle this?

They may route across pools; knowing the main pool helps you check.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. CoinGecko API: Top pools by token address — multiple pools per token.
  2. Uniswap: Concentrated liquidity — active liquidity within price ranges.
  3. Raydium: Staking into farms — CPMM vs CLMM pools.
