Extreme Funding Rates: Units and Time Windows That Change the Result

An 'extreme' funding rate depends on the interval, the venue's caps and the time window. The same number can be ordinary on one venue and extreme on another.

Short answer

To judge whether funding is extreme, convert it to a common interval and compare with that venue's own history and limits. Binance publishes adjusted funding caps and floors per symbol (fundingInfo); Hyperliquid caps funding at 4% per hour. A 0.1% per 8h rate annualises to about 110% of notional; on an hourly venue, 0.1% per hour would be eight times that. Check how many settlements stayed extreme — a single spike differs from a sustained regime.
