DEX Trading Fees: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
A DEX swap pays a pool fee to liquidity providers, plus network gas. On small swaps, gas can exceed the pool fee many times over.
Short answer
DEX trading fees have two main parts: the pool's fee tier (for example 0.05%, 0.3% or 1% on many AMMs), taken from the input amount, and the network's gas fee, paid separately. Some tokens also apply transfer taxes. On a $200 swap with a 0.3% fee ($0.60) and $3 of gas, total cost is $3.60, or 1.8%. Check the fee tier, estimated gas, any token tax and the route (multi-hop routes pay a fee per hop).
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Pool fee tier | % of input to LPs |
| Gas | Network cost, fixed-ish per swap |
| Token tax | Extra % on transfer (some tokens) |
| Multi-hop | One pool fee per hop |

Example
Worked: $2,000 swap, 0.3% fee = $6, gas $3: total $9 = 0.45%. At $20,000: $60 + $3 = $63 = 0.315%.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
- Uniswap: Concentrated liquidity — active liquidity within price ranges.
- Raydium: Staking into farms — CPMM vs CLMM pools.
