DEX Token Rebrands: How to Read the Number Before a Swap

When a token rebrands, its name and ticker change; sometimes its contract does too. Charts and data can split across old and new identities.

Short answer

A rebrand may keep the same contract (only metadata changes) or migrate to a new contract with a swap or bridge for holders. In the second case, old and new tokens both exist, with separate pools and charts, and the old one may keep trading thinly. Before a swap, confirm the current contract from official channels, whether a migration is required, and which pools belong to which contract.

Example

Illustrative: after a migration, the old token kept a pool with $30k liquidity and traded at a 40% discount; buyers of the old ticker couldn't convert at par.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
  2. Solana: Assets on Solana (tokens) — mint accounts, supply, decimals, mint and freeze authority.
