DEX Pool Migration: How to Read the Number Before a Swap

When a project moves liquidity to a new pool or DEX, the old pool can be left thin with a stale price. Swapping there is expensive.

Short answer

Pool migration happens when liquidity moves to a new pool (new DEX, version or fee tier), for example after a launchpad graduates a token. The old pool may keep showing a price and history while holding little liquidity. Before a swap, check liquidity over time, the last trade time and whether a newer pool with the same token address now holds most liquidity. Charts tied to the old pool will show a history that stops or thins.

Example

Illustrative: an old pool with $12k liquidity shows the same price as the new one, but a $2,000 swap would move it by well over 10%.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. CoinGecko onchain API: New pools by network — recently created pools.
  2. CoinGecko onchain API: Top pools by token address (pool schema) — pool fields and nullability (fdv_usd, market_cap_usd, reserve_in_usd).
