DEX Candle Wicks: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
A long wick on a DEX candle may be one large swap moving a thin pool — or an arbitrage bot correcting it moments later. It is not always a level.
Short answer
On DEX charts, wicks often come from single swaps that move the pool price sharply along the curve, followed by arbitrage that pulls it back. In a thin pool, one $5,000 swap can create a 10% wick. Before reading a wick as support or resistance, check the trades behind it: how many swaps, their size relative to liquidity, and whether price returned within seconds. Wicks in deep pools are more informative than wicks in shallow ones.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Wick from one swap | Impact, not a level |
| Quick reversion | Arbitrage |
| Wick with many trades | More meaningful |
| Deep pool wick | More informative |

Example
Illustrative: a 10% lower wick comes from one sell of $5,000 into a pool with $60,000 liquidity; price returns within 15 seconds. It describes pool depth, not demand.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
