Cross-Exchange Tape Aggregation in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
Aggregating trades from several exchanges gives a fuller picture of flow, but mixes venues whose prices and participants differ.
Short answer
Cross-exchange tape aggregation combines trades from several venues into one stream or delta. It can show whether a move is broad or driven by one venue. Price response should be measured on each venue: if the aggregate delta is positive but only one venue's buyers drove it, the move may not hold elsewhere. Check which venue printed first and whether others followed.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| All venues same direction | Broad move |
| One venue leads, others follow | Leader identified |
| One venue alone | Local flow |
| Aggregate vs venue disagree | Mixed participants |
Measuring the response
Compute delta per venue and aggregated over the same windows; record which venue's price moved first and the response on each venue.
Example
Illustrative: aggregate delta of +225 BTC is mostly venue A's perp. Venue A rises 0.4%; venue C spot barely moves and venue A later converges back.
