ChartsPod Options Payoff Scenarios: Settings to Check Before Your First Analysis
ChartsPod's options workspace lists strategies and Greeks. A payoff scenario view is only as good as its assumptions about price, time and volatility.
Short answer
When modelling an options strategy's payoff, check the scenario inputs: spot range, the date evaluated (expiry or earlier), implied volatility assumption (held constant or shifted), interest rate, premium paid and fees, and contract size. A before-expiry payoff curve depends heavily on the IV assumption; an expiry curve doesn't. Label which one you're looking at and test IV shifts.

Common first-session mistakes:
- Reading a before-expiry curve as expiry
- Constant IV after events
- Premium in BTC vs USD mixed
Worked example
Illustrative: a long straddle's before-expiry curve looked profitable at ±3%; after a 10-point IV drop the same scenario showed a loss. See Options Payout Before Expiry in Crypto: How to Read the Data With Price Context.
