ChartsPod Alerts: Bar Close vs Intrabar Triggering
An intrabar alert tells you price touched a level. A bar-close alert tells you price was accepted there. ChartsPod's alerts are only as good as the trigger you choose.
Short answer
Choose intrabar triggering in ChartsPod alerts when you need to know immediately that price touched a level (targets, risk warnings, volatility), and bar-close triggering when your plan requires price to be accepted beyond a level (breakout entries, retests). Intrabar alerts include wicks that reverse; bar-close alerts wait until the bar ends, up to the full interval. Check which trigger options the alert panel offers, test an alert on a recent level and record the trigger with the alert.
Two triggers
Setting it up
- Choose the market and venue explicitly.
- Set the level and condition.
- Pick the trigger type available in the alert panel.
- Write the action you will take.
- Test on a recent level and check timing.
Control names in the terminal can change between releases. If a label differs from this guide, look for the setting that does the job described.
ChartsPod's docs describe alerts and schedules as choosing automation for a trigger or a recurring brief. For delivery checks, see ChartsPod Alert Delivery Checks: Channels, Telegram and Timing.
A hybrid approach
Many traders use two alerts on the same level: an intrabar alert as a heads-up, and a bar-close alert as the action trigger. The first prepares you to watch order flow; the second confirms acceptance.
For volatile periods such as major news, consider moving alerts away from obvious round numbers or using a higher timeframe for the bar-close alert to avoid whipsaws.
Alert mistakes
Using bar-close alerts on a very high timeframe for time-sensitive plans. Using intrabar alerts for breakout entries and then acting on every wick. Forgetting to remove alerts after levels lose relevance. Each mistake is avoided by writing the action and trigger type in the alert text.
