Anchored VWAP After a Token Listing: Choosing an Auditable Start

An anchored VWAP from a token's listing shows the average price paid by everyone since it began trading. Choosing the anchor so others can reproduce it matters.

Short answer

An anchored VWAP after a token listing should start at a timestamp anyone can verify: the first trade on that specific exchange market, recorded in UTC. Avoid anchoring to a visually chosen candle low or to pre-listing data from other venues. TradingView's anchored VWAP tool lets you pick the starting point; write that point down with the venue and market. Note that the first minutes after listing often have extreme prices and thin volume, which affect the line less over time as volume accumulates.

Early volatility

Illustrative: a token lists at $1.00, spikes to $3.20 in five minutes on low volume, then trades around $1.40. VWAP from the first trade starts high but converges toward where most volume traded, because each later bar carries more volume than the opening spike.

Comparing with other anchors

Plot a second anchored VWAP from a later event, such as the first major low after listing. Where the two lines converge, the market has accepted a similar average price for both groups of participants; where they diverge, the later group entered at very different prices. These comparisons are only meaningful when both anchors are recorded and reproducible.

Conclusion

Anchor listing VWAP at the first trade on the specific market, in UTC, and record it so others can reproduce it.
