AI Crypto Funding Analysis: How to Check Timestamps Before Trusting the Answer
Funding values come in two kinds: settled rates with a funding time, and predicted rates that change until settlement. An AI answer must say which.
Short answer
Before trusting an AI funding answer, check whether each rate is settled (with its fundingTime) or predicted/current (with the time it was read), the venue's funding interval, and the time of the price data it compares against. Binance's funding history returns fundingTime per settlement, and its premium index returns nextFundingTime. A predicted rate quoted hours ago may be very different at settlement. Reject answers that mix settled and predicted rates or omit intervals.
Timestamps the answer must carry
| Value | Timestamp to require | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Settled rate | fundingTime | Fixed, comparable |
| Predicted rate | Read time + nextFundingTime | Changes until settlement |
| Interval | Hours per settlement | Annualisation |
| Price context | Window | Must align |
Checks before trusting it
Worked example
Illustrative: the answer called funding 'extreme at 0.045%'. That was a predicted rate read at 11:30; the 16:00 settlement was 0.018%.
