Binance Funding History: Null vs Zero - Handle Missing Fields Correctly

Funding history looks like a simple list of rates. Its defaults, interval changes and the markPrice field each create their own missing-data traps.

Short answer

Binance's funding rate history endpoint returns symbol, fundingRate, fundingTime, markPrice and rateType, in ascending order. Without startTime/endTime it returns the most recent 200 records. A fundingRate of "0.00000000" is a real zero-rate settlement; a missing settlement time is a gap. Funding intervals can differ by symbol (fundingInfo reports fundingIntervalHours), so 'missing' 8-hour slots may simply be a 4-hour schedule or vice versa. Check the interval before calling anything a gap, and treat an empty markPrice as unknown, never zero.

Handling policy

Policy for this sourcePolicy for this source: Read interval per symbol first; Request explicit time ranges; Paginate with startTime; Empty markPrice → null; Annualise using the actual interval.POLICY FOR THIS SOURCERead interval per symbol firstRequest explicit time rangesPaginate with startTimeEmpty markPrice → nullAnnualise using the actual interval

Illustrative: a symbol on a 4-hour schedule shows six settlements per day. Assuming 8 hours and annualising with three per day would understate the annual rate by half.

Sources and methodology

Field definitions come from DEX Screener's API reference, CoinGecko's onchain API documentation and Binance's Spot API documentation, read 17 October 2026. Where a schema was not visible in the documentation, this guide says so and describes defensive handling rather than asserting field behaviour.
