Weekend Liquidity Risk: A Worked Crypto Example With Fees Included

Weekend crypto markets are open but usually thinner. Thinner books mean more slippage at the stop, which should shrink position size.

Short answer

Lower weekend liquidity typically increases slippage on stop orders. If you risk $500 with a 2% stop, round-trip fees of 0.1% and weekday stop slippage of 0.02%, the loss per dollar of notional is 2.12% and size is ≈ $23,585. Assuming 0.15% weekend slippage (illustrative), the loss per dollar is 2.25% and size drops to ≈ $22,222 for the same risk. Measure your own weekend slippage from your journal and size from it.

Sources and methodology

Arithmetic uses standard sizing formulas. Fee rates (0.05% taker, 0.02% maker), slippage and funding values are illustrative; check your venue's schedule. Liquidation figures are simplified approximations; exchanges calculate them with their own maintenance-margin rules (see Bybit's documentation).
