Triple EMA in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close

The triple exponential moving average removes even more lag than DEMA. On the live bar it gives the current price the largest weight of the EMA family.

Short answer

TEMA = 3 × EMA1 − 3 × EMA2 + EMA3, where EMA2 is the EMA of EMA1 and EMA3 the EMA of EMA2. The live price's effective weight is about 3α − 3α² + α³: for α = 0.095 that is ≈ 0.26, almost three times a plain 20-EMA. TEMA therefore tracks price closely and changes most inside the live bar; its crosses with price are the least stable. Treat TEMA signals strictly on closed bars, and expect more crossovers than with slower averages.
