Trading-Journal Confidence Labels in Crypto: When the Common Rule Produces a Misleading Result

'Size up on high-confidence trades' works only if confidence predicts results. Labels can also drift: what felt like 'high' last year isn't the same now.

Short answer

Confidence labels mislead when they're recorded after entry, used inconsistently over time, or validated on small samples. A high-confidence bucket that outperformed in one quarter may not in the next. Before scaling size by confidence, test the relationship across several periods, keep definitions written down, and cap the size difference between labels.

Arithmetic uses standard sizing formulas. Fee rates (0.05% taker, 0.02% maker), slippage and funding values are illustrative; check your venue's schedule. Liquidation figures are simplified approximations; exchanges calculate them with their own maintenance-margin rules (see Bybit's documentation).
