Solana Token Extensions: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Solana's Token-2022 program adds extensions such as transfer fees, transfer hooks and permanent delegates. They change what happens when you swap.
Short answer
Token extensions add behaviour to Solana tokens: a transfer fee takes a share of every transfer; a transfer hook runs custom code on transfers (which can restrict them); a permanent delegate can move tokens from any account; a default account state can create frozen accounts. Before a swap, check which extensions a token uses and their settings. A swap quote may not show a transfer fee clearly, and a permanent delegate means holdings can be moved without your signature.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Transfer fee | Charged on each transfer |
| Transfer hook | Custom logic; may block |
| Permanent delegate | Can move tokens from any account |
| Default frozen | New accounts start frozen |

Example
Illustrative: a token with a 5% transfer fee loses 5% on the swap into your wallet and again when you send it to a pool to sell — about 9.75% round trip before pool fees.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
