Relative Volume in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close

Relative volume compares current volume with a baseline. On the live bar, volume is still accumulating, so an early reading understates it.

Short answer

Relative volume (RVOL) = current bar volume ÷ baseline (e.g. average volume of the same time slot over past days). On the live bar, volume only grows, so RVOL starts low and rises through the bar; a reading of 0.6 halfway through can end at 1.4. Some tools project full-bar volume from elapsed time, which adds estimation error. Compare RVOL on closed bars, or compare partial volume against a partial baseline.

Halfway through a bar, comparing half a bar's volume with a full-bar baseline makes every bar look quiet.
