Pool Age: How to Read the Number Before a Swap

Pool age is how long ago the pool was created. Young pools carry risks that only time reveals.

Short answer

Pool age is the time since the pool's creation (pairCreatedAt in DEX Screener, pool_created_at in CoinGecko's onchain data; DEX Screener's may be null). In the first hours, liquidity can be removed, supply minted, sell restrictions discovered and prices are set by very few traders. Before a swap, check age alongside liquidity changes, authority status and makers. Older pools aren't automatically safe, but very young pools need stricter checks and smaller size.

Illustrative: a 40-minute-old pool shows $90k liquidity and rising price. Six hours later, 60% of liquidity has been removed by the deployer wallet. Waiting cost nothing but time.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
  2. CoinGecko onchain API: New pools by network — recently created pools.
