How to Diagnose Missing Order-Flow Data in ChartsPod
An empty footprint or a frozen order book has a short list of causes. Check them in order before assuming the market went quiet.
Short answer
Diagnose missing order-flow data in ChartsPod in this order: confirm the venue and contract are supported by that tool (availability is shown per tool), check whether the market is actually trading, check your connection and whether the tab was in the background, reload to see if history fills, and compare with another market on the same venue. Record gaps as unknown, not zero.
Diagnostic order
Causes and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Footprint empty on one contract | Tool not available for that venue/contract | Switch venue or market |
| Order book frozen | Connection dropped or tab throttled | Bring tab to front, reload |
| Gap in heatmap | Not recorded during disconnect | Treat as unknown |
| Wrong values vs exchange | Different market (spot vs perp, 1000x) | Check contract |
Control names in the terminal can change between releases. If a label differs from this guide, look for the setting that does the job described.
Writing a useful report
If a problem persists, report: venue, contract, tool, timeframe, UTC time window, what you expected, what you saw, whether a reload helped, and a screenshot with settings visible. Problems reproducible on one contract and not another are especially useful to report.
Example: a frozen book
Illustrative: the order book stops updating while the chart keeps printing candles. Bringing the tab to the foreground restarts updates, and the heatmap shows a blank band for the minutes the tab was in the background. Diagnosis: background throttling, not a market event. Record the gap as unknown and keep the order-flow tab visible during important periods.
Recording gaps
In your journal, mark gaps as unknown with start and end times. Do not infer liquidity or flow for that period. See ChartsPod Heatmap History: Live Sessions and Missing Depth and ChartsPod One-Second Charts: Trade Coverage and Loaded-History Limits.

Sources and methodology
ChartsPod capabilities were checked against its public overview, documentation index, markets and indicator pages on 17 October 2026. Exact control names inside the terminal can change between releases, so this guide describes what to set and check rather than quoting menu labels. Venue availability is shown per tool in the terminal. Worked examples use illustrative numbers.
