GeckoTerminal vs TradingView Crypto Charts: Pool Data vs Exchange Data

GeckoTerminal charts pools. TradingView's crypto charts are mostly exchange markets. Before comparing them, know which kind of market each chart represents.

Short answer

GeckoTerminal charts DEX pools: price from swaps in one pool, in a chosen base or quote unit, with liquidity and trades beside it. TradingView's crypto charts are mainly centralised-exchange pairs and aggregated indexes, plus DEX pairs in its DEX screener. A pool chart and an exchange chart for the same token are different markets with different volume, gaps and participants. Use the pool chart for onchain execution and the exchange chart for order-book markets, and label which is which.

Mistakes when mixing the two

Placing a stop on an exchange using a level from a pool chart, or vice versa, assumes the two markets trade at the same prices at the same time. They converge through arbitrage, but wicks in thin pools often never appear on the exchange, and exchange spikes may not reach the pool.

Comparing volume across the two is equally misleading: pool volume counts swaps in one pool; exchange volume counts trades on one venue. Neither is "the token's volume".

Keep separate notes for each market, and when you combine them, state which market each observation came from.
