Footprint Swing-Delta Divergence in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
Comparing delta across two swings shows whether the second push had more or less aggression. Price response after the second swing tests the reading.
Short answer
A swing-delta divergence occurs when price makes a new swing extreme but cumulative delta during the second swing is weaker than the first. It suggests the move ran on less aggression. Response: if price reverses after confirmation, the weaker push mattered; if it extends, passive participants carried it. Use confirmed pivots, the same anchor and venue, and measure from the confirmation bar.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| Reverses after confirmation | Exhaustion |
| Extends | Passive-driven move |
| Ranges | Inconclusive |
| Liquidations at swing | Forced flow distorts |
Measuring the response
Sum delta within each swing (pivot to pivot), compare, and record price over fixed windows from confirmation.
Example
Illustrative: the second swing to a new high carried 480 BTC of delta versus 1,200 in the first; after confirmation, price fell 1.1% over 20 bars.
