Executed Volume at a Price Level in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
How much traded at a price level, and by which side, shows how contested it was. Price response afterwards shows who won the contest.
Short answer
Executed volume at a level (from footprint or tape) measures participation there. Heavy volume with price holding suggests acceptance or absorption; heavy volume followed by a break suggests the passive side gave up. Light volume with a quick pass means little interest. Measure executed volume and delta at the level, then the next move. Compare with the level's volume in prior sessions.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| Heavy volume, holds | Contested and defended |
| Heavy volume, breaks | Defender exhausted |
| Light volume, passes | Little interest |
| Repeated heavy volume | Important level |
Measuring the response
Record volume and delta at the level each visit, and the outcome (hold/break); compare across levels.
Example
Illustrative: a level absorbed 180, then 260 BTC on two visits and held; on the third visit 410 BTC traded and price broke through.
