DEX Liquidity Locks: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
A liquidity lock puts LP tokens in a time-locked contract so the pool's liquidity can't be withdrawn early. Its value depends on what share is locked, for how long, and by whom.
Short answer
A liquidity lock reduces the risk that liquidity is pulled suddenly, but only for the locked share and until the unlock date. Before a swap, check what percentage of LP tokens is locked, the unlock date, the locking contract, and whether unlocked LP positions are large. A lock of 20% of liquidity for 30 days leaves 80% removable now. Locks don't address other risks such as mint authority or sell restrictions.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| % of LP locked | Share protected |
| Unlock date | When protection ends |
| Locker contract | Verify it |
| Unlocked LP | Removable now |

Illustrative: a 'liquidity locked' badge covers 20% of LP tokens; the deployer holds the other 70% unlocked and could remove most liquidity at any time.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
- Uniswap: Concentrated liquidity — active liquidity within price ranges.
- CoinGecko onchain API: Top pools by token address (pool schema) — pool fields and nullability (fdv_usd, market_cap_usd, reserve_in_usd).
