CVD Divergence at a Range Low in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading

At a range low, CVD falling to a new low while price holds is a classic absorption setup. Price response decides whether it is real.

Short answer

At a range low, a bullish CVD divergence (price retests the low while CVD makes a lower low, meaning more aggressive selling) suggests passive buyers absorbed the selling. Price response confirms it: a quick rejection back into the range with sellers fading supports absorption; a slow grind along the low, or a break with expanding selling, means the buyers ran out. Measure how far price travels back into the range within a set number of bars after the test. Act on the reaction, not the divergence.

Measuring the response

Define the test bar and measure price change over the next N bars (e.g. 3–6). Compare with the range height: a move of more than a quarter of the range back inside is a meaningful rejection; less suggests weak response.

Example

Illustrative: in a 59,500–61,000 range, the second test shows 650 BTC more selling than the first, yet price holds 20 above the prior low and rallies 380 in three bars, a quarter of the range. The book showed bids refilling at 59,500.
