Coppock Curve in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close
The Coppock Curve was designed for monthly bars. On a monthly chart, the 'live bar' lasts a month, so the latest value can change for weeks.
Short answer
Coppock = WMA(10) of (ROC(14) + ROC(11)), classically on monthly closes. On the live monthly bar, the current price stands in for the month's close, so both ROC terms and the WMA's heaviest-weighted input change daily for the whole month. A 'turn up from below zero' signal seen mid-month can reverse by month end. Use completed months for signals; shorter-timeframe versions behave like a smoothed momentum oscillator.
Which part of Coppock Curve uses the live bar
| Component | Uses current bar? | Effect intrabar |
|---|---|---|
| ROC(14), ROC(11) | Yes | Live month's price |
| WMA(10) | Yes | Newest weighted 10/55 |
| Signal (turn up below 0) | Yes | Can reverse within month |
On monthly bars, 'before candle close' can mean weeks: the indicator's latest point is provisional for the whole month.
