Aroon in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close
Aroon counts how many bars ago the highest high and lowest low occurred. A new extreme in the current bar resets one line to 100 instantly.
Short answer
Aroon Up = 100 × (N − bars since the N-period high) ÷ N; Aroon Down uses the low. If the live bar makes a new N-period high, Aroon Up jumps to 100 immediately; if price then reverses and doesn't hold, the bar still made that high, so Aroon Up stays 100 at close. What can change intrabar is whether the new extreme happens at all, so crossovers and 100 readings appear abruptly. Treat jumps as provisional until the bar closes and confirm with price structure.
Which part of Aroon uses the live bar
| Component | Uses current bar? | Effect intrabar |
|---|---|---|
| Bars since N-period high | Yes, if new high prints | Jumps to 0 |
| Bars since N-period low | Yes, if new low prints | Jumps to 0 |
| Aroon Up/Down | Yes | Step changes |
| Oscillator (Up − Down) | Yes | Large steps |
Unlike averaging indicators, Aroon moves in steps. A single new high moves Aroon Up from, say, 40 to 100 at once; there is no smoothing to dampen it.

Rules
Because a printed high cannot be 'un-printed', Aroon's intrabar changes are usually one-directional within the bar; the vanishing risk comes from signals defined on crosses that depend on whether a new extreme appears.
