AI Crypto Options Analysis: What the Assistant Should Say When Data Is Missing

Options chains have many strikes with no quotes, and exposure models need OI and Greeks for all of them. Missing pieces change results a lot.

Short answer

When options data is missing — no bids or asks on far strikes (Deribit returns null), Greeks unavailable for some instruments, one expiry not fetched, or another venue not included — a good assistant says which strikes or expiries are missing, what it substituted (e.g. mark IV) and how exposure or max-pain results are affected. It should not treat null quotes as zero or present partial-chain exposure as complete.

Where the data usually runs out

What a good answer says

Examples of the wording to expect when options data is missing:

'Far OTM puts below 50k have no bids; I used mark IV for the smile there.'
'Exposure covers Deribit only; other venues aren't included.'
'The quarterly expiry wasn't fetched, so total OI is understated.'

An answer that skips these is overconfident about options. Original ChartsPod editorial graphic.

Overconfident vs honest

  • Null bids treated as zero
  • Partial chain presented as complete
  • Single venue called 'the market'
  • Missing expiry unmentioned

Illustrative: an AI's max-pain number omitted the largest expiry. Including it moved the result by 2,000; an honest answer would have flagged the missing expiry.
